Swiss Movie Screening ‘8 Days in August’ at KINO (German Film Festival)

As part of the German Film Festival KINO, organized by Goethe-Institut Hong Kong, Swiss Month proudly presents the screening of "8 Days in August", directed by Swiss filmmaker Samuel Perriard. Set against the sunlit backdrop of southern Italy, the film follows Helena, Adam, and their son Finn as they embark on what is expected to be a perfect holiday with close friends. Their plans unravel when Finn suddenly collapses on the way back from the beach and remains silent about the cause, leading to growing tension between the families and exposing cracks in Helena and Adam’s relationship. What was meant to be an idyllic getaway becomes a turbulent journey of hidden secrets and strained bonds.
 
Join us for the first screening at the Hong Kong Arts Center on 17 October 2024, followed by an exclusive online post-screening talk with director Samuel Perriard. A second screening will be held on 20 October 2024 at Premiere Elements, without the talk. Swiss BBQ at the Beach

Join us for a Swiss family BBQ at the Hong Kong Outpost on Lantau Island, run by fellow countryman Roland Buser, on Sunday, 3 November.

We’ll meet at Cheung Chau Ferry Pier (No. 5) at 9:45 AM, then take the Fast Ferry to Cheung Chau before a 30-minute Sampan ride to the beach.

Enjoy a Swiss-inspired BBQ lunch at 1 PM, featuring various meats, salad, and dessert, with a vegetarian option available upon request.

The cost is HKD 400 for SAHK members and HKD 450 for non-members, which includes food and activities; drinks and transportation by Sampan are extra.

Moderated by Profesor Simon Young, Ian Davies Professor in Ethics at Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong, the discussion will feature three distinguished speakers, Dr. Liu Xinyan, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) East Asia Officer, Alex Fan, Barrister-at-law and Jason Yip, former Delegate of the ICRC. Together, they will explore the legacy of these pivotal treaties and their continued importance for humanitarian values and international law.

The Swiss retro electronic band STEVANS has been collaborating with China's disco queen Zhang Qiang since 2020, releasing two albums that blend electronic and disco music, both of which have been well-received. The band, formed by Yvan Franel and Yann Secrest, is known for their energetic live performances, with popular tracks like "Monday’s Wedding." They have also opened for bands such as Coldplay and will be touring several cities in China again from October to November 2024, delivering their signature vibrant live shows.

EPFL and HKBU present the 360⁰ Terapixel Panorama of the Battle of Murten 1893/2024

We are proud to present an extraordinary event at the intersection of innovation and technology, highlighting the collaboration between Hong Kong and Switzerland in the digitization of cultural heritage. Professors Jeffrey Shaw (Hong Kong Baptist University) and Sarah Kenderdine (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL) have curated a pioneering experience featuring the world’s largest digitized artwork: *360⁰ Terapixel Panorama of the Battle of Murten 1893/2024*.
 
Originally painted in 1893 by Louis Braun, this monumental 10m x 100m artwork captures the historic Swiss victory over Charles the Bold in 1476. Through cutting-edge digitization techniques, it has been transformed into a breathtaking 1.6 terapixel digital image, allowing viewers to explore its intricate details with unprecedented detail and immersion. This project exemplifies groundbreaking work in digital conservation, data science, and immersive technologies.
 
Join us for guided tours of this remarkable digitized panorama at the HKBU Visualization Research Center. A panel discussion will be held on 11 November at HKBU, where leading experts will explore the technological innovations and cultural significance of this project. Our goal is to provide a dynamic platform to unite researchers, practitioners, and companies from Switzerland and Hong Kong. We also seek to foster enhanced cooperation between Swiss innovators and Hong Kong's medical sector, focusing on the seamless integration of these innovative technologies into existing hospital frameworks. Swiss Papercutting Design Workshop with Nick Tsao

Did you know that the art of Swiss papercutting shares many similarities with the traditional Chinese papercutting tradition? In this unique and hands-on papercutting design workshop, you can combine both of these traditions and explore the fascinating similarities between Swiss and Chinese papercutting art.

The workshop will be led by Nick Tsao, who formerly worked as an architect for the Basel-based firm Herzog & de Meuron. Nick received his architecture training from the University of Cambridge and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the founder of Papertecture, a Hong Kong-based Papercutting Studio.

Nick will guide you in drawing and creating your own one-of-a-kind papercutting design, which will then be digitally enhanced and produced especially for you. Surprise your family and friends with your bespoke papercutting design. It's a perfect gift for yourself or your loved ones.

The workshop will be held in Nick Tsao's home at the Blue House in Wan Chai, which also serves as a design studio for his papercutting art. The historic Blue House in Wan Chai has been recognized with the UNESCO Award of Excellence. This is a great opportunity to witness heritage and creativity in one place. Swiss drinks and snacks will be served during the workshop. We look forward to seeing you!

The workshop is limited to 10 participants. Children aged 12 and older, accompanied by a parent, are welcome to join. Please ensure that your child is interested in the topic, as the workshop will last for 120 minutes.

Sinopsis: Avril, an independently minded lawyer known for taking on lost causes, resolves to secure a victory in her next case. However, when Dariuch another seemingly hopeless client, asks her to defend his faithful canine companion, Cosmos, Avril is unable to resist. She dives into the absurdity of defending a canine client, confronting not only the legal system but also advocating for both women's and animal rights. A lively and at times comical court case unfolds – where a dog's life hangs in the balance.
